Today's Science News: Wolf Rayet - 140 System.

What is Wolf Rayet -140 ? Basic idea...

Wolf Rayet is a O-type Star with at least 25 times more than the mass of the sun is about to end its life. An O type star is a hot, blue-white star of spectral type O in Yerkes classification system. This system is located about 5000 light year away from the earth. NASA James Webb Telescope has captured images of this O type star. It reveals that there is at least 17 such rings in its image.

Why such rings ?

NASA has reported that the rings are created when the star comes together and the stellar winds collided. Stellar winds are fast flowing stream of particles which are emitted from star. The ring is produced once in every orbit which is estimated to be about 7.93 years. The most common element found in stars is hydrogen which can't form dust on its own. But Wolf-Rayet stars in their later stages have swept away most of the hydrogen, so they eject elements typically found deep in a interior of star, like carbon, which can form dust. The 17-ring structure was produced over about 130 years and occupies a region of space larger than our solar system.
