The study of electromagnetic phenomena of a static / stationary charge is known as electrostatics.

Charges:

Property of a body by which it attract / repel another species having charges or a neutral body.

Charges are of two types:

  1. Positive Charge
  2. Negative Charge

Charges are scalar quantity; like charges repel, unlike charges attract.

Charges are quantized, that is, it is always integral multiple of a basic unit.

q=+/- ne, where n belongs to N and e = 1.609 x 10-19 C.

1 Coulomb of charge has flown through a cross section area, when 1 ampere of current has passed cross section in 1 sec.

dq =i dt

Questions:

1. Electric Current in a wire varies with time as I = 2t2+5t+10. Find the net charge flown through the wire as the function of time. If at t=0, it is known as q=0.

q = i dt

q = 2t3/3 + 5t2/2 + 10t
